Florida is known to be the home of many of the most sought after species of game fish in the country – Snook, Redfish, and Tarpon. Fortunately, Southern Scales and Tails is your expert when it comes to the “The Big Three” and the seasons you can take them home.
Snook
Native to Florida, this species is known for the black stripe that extends to the tail. They can grow up to 48 inches and feed on small fish and large crustaceans. Snook season happens during the spring.
Redfish
Also known as the Red Drum, this species is known for the one or more dark spots at the base of its tail. Redfish can grow up to 61 inches and the height of their fishing season falls into the fall months.
Tarpon
Also native to Florida, Tarpon are known for the ribbon that protrudes from its dorsal fin. This species can grow up to a whopping 8 feet long! Tarpon season happens during the summer months so don't miss out!

Hello, I’m Cayne Bossard. I am a Florida Native who has been fishing the waters of South West Florida since I could hold a fishing pole. Two words come to mind when I think of a way to describe myself. Tarpon Obsessed! I have been fly fishing for over a decade, so saying I specialize in fly fishing is an understatement. When I’m not out on the water you’ll often find me tying flies or scoping out the water conditions to find the best places to fish in the area. I have been a captain for over 4 years and I have years more of fishing experience to back me.
